From cold to warm

Set in Colma, California, the project organises a service hall around three parts. A technical service wing, spaces for family consultation and memory, and a central ceremonial threshold between them.

The distinction between “cold” and “warm” is both programmatic and atmospheric. The design seeks to accommodate practical operations while making room for pause, gathering, and remembrance.

Garden rooms and a central hall

A structural grid orders the complex. Walled gardens vary in orientation and enclosure, extending interior spaces towards the landscape. The central hall becomes a vertical point of orientation within the otherwise horizontal setting.
